2026 Outlook
Veteran journeyman returning to the 49ers organization where he debuted as a productive 2018 rookie (467 yards, 5 TDs). Now signing to practice squad amid significant WR injuries: Ricky Pearsall out for season, Christian Kirk on injured reserve, Mike Evans dealing with rib injury. Pettis was one of nine players auditioning for San Francisco on Tuesday and earned a practice squad spot. Last season (8 games with Saints): 9 catches, 127 yards—fringe practice-squad contributor role. Return to 49ers creates potential emergency depth path if injuries mount, though at 30 years old and after years of journeying, Pettis is unlikely to produce meaningful fantasy value unless elevated due to catastrophic secondary injury wave. Late Sept — Re-signed to active roster: The 49ers re-signed Pettis from the practice squad to the active roster amid the WR injury crisis. With Ricky Pearsall out for season (PCL surgery), Demarcus Robinson on injured reserve (high-ankle sprain), and Mike Evans dealing with a rib injury that could force him to miss multiple games, Pettis serves as emergency depth alongside Jordan Watkins, Jacob Cowing, and KhaDarel Hodge. Pettis has career totals of 92 catches, 1,231 yards, and 13 touchdowns across 66 games. (per 49ers Give Brock Purdy More WR Help Amid Mike Evans Injury Uncertainty)
Role / Depth Chart
Practice squad depth. Emergency WR option if additional injuries occur. Limited path to fantasy relevance given age and depth competition.
Injury Status
Healthy.
