NYG Deonte Banks
NFL cornerback. Position: CB. Team: New York Giants (NYG).
Quick Facts
- Position: CB
- Team: New York Giants (NYG)
- Draft: 2023, Round 1 (5th overall) by New York Giants
- 2025 Status: In and out of favor with defensive staff; effort and technique questioned
2026 Outlook
A wildcard heading into 2026 under new defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson. Banks' 2025 season was marked by inconsistency and falling out of favor with the previous regime, despite being a high draft pick. However, Wilson's defensive scheme mirrors what Wink Martindale ran with the Giants, a system in which Banks had early success as a rookie. Banks is one of the most athletically gifted players in the secondary and could rediscover his form in a scheme that emphasizes press coverage and aggressive man-to-man defense. If he can find consistency and technical discipline, he could secure a starting role; if the issues from 2025 persist, roster spot in jeopardy. New coaching staff has no burden of protecting draft capital — only finding the best lineup. (per Quest for Jobs Among Giants' Cornerback Group Promises to Be Highly Competitive)
Facing stiff competition for starting reps: the Giants signed veteran Greg Newsome II in free agency and drafted press-coverage specialist Colton Hood in Round 2. Both competitors are viewed as better fits for Wilson's scheme, though Banks remains athletically elite. Training camp performance will be decisive. (per Colton Hood Could Be the Perfect Fit for Giants' New Defensive Scheme)
Role / Depth Chart
Competing for starting position; currently listed as backup/reserve. Wilson's scheme provides opportunity for career reset after disappointing 2025.
2025 Stats
