His father, Jeremiah Trotter, played with Buccaneers linebackers coach Mike Caldwell (1998–2001 on the Eagles) and briefly with the Buccaneers themselves (2007 season). Bowles coached against Jeremiah Trotter multiple times in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The combination of Trotter's aggressive tackling skill—he excels as a run defender and pass rusher—plus these relational ties made him a strong fit for Todd Bowles' defense despite questions about his coverage ability.
