Haynes King is an undrafted rookie QB out of Georgia Tech who signed with the Carolina Panthers as a free agent. He's a dual-threat QB who's competing for the QB3 spot behind Bryce Young and Kenny Pickett. After veteran Will Grier retired and Carolina didn't bring in a fourth QB, King got a major preseason opportunity.
And he absolutely made the most of it in the Hall of Fame Game (from the Haynes King page):
- Stat line: 21 of 34 for 180 yards and 2 TDs through the air, plus 39 rushing yards — including the game-winning 5-yard TD dive as time expired to beat the Cardinals 33-30
- He entered in the second quarter and stole the rookie spotlight from Cardinals third-round pick Carson Beck
- Panthers HC Dave Canales has praised King's "pro mentality" and quick scheme absorption throughout camp
For fantasy purposes, King is deep QB3/developmental depth — he's unlikely to see regular-season action barring injuries. But that was a hell of a debut statement for an undrafted guy.
